DiscoverUR (Sibley Music Library): Basic Search Functions

Search tips for using UR's discovery interface, DiscoverUR

Basic Search

Starting your search on the Sibley Library homepage begins with DiscoverUR. Each tab will search for something different. See below for additional information about what you can search.

 

To begin your search, search for keywords on your research topic in the search box.

Sibley Music Library + Articles, Books & more

This is the default search of DiscoverUR on the Sibley Library's website. When you search for keywords, with this default search, you'll search for items held physically in Sibley Library plus digital collections (e.g. ebooks, streaming audio/visual materials, online articles, etc.).

From the dropdown menu, you can also search:

All UR Libraries - Articles, Books, & More: Searches all UR physical collections across the three UR campuses plus digital collections.

E-Resources: searches digital collections (materials available online such as ebooks, streaming audio/visual materials, online articles, etc.

Course Reserves: Searches for course reserves materials available at Sibley Library

 

Search Results Page

When viewing search results, use the yellow filter bar across the top of your results page, you can filter by material type (scores, audio, video, books, journal tites or for articles). For the best user experience, "sign in" with your UR credentials on the search results page.

Scores

If you know you are looking only for musical scores, use this tab to pre-limit to that format.

Audio

If you know you are looking only for sound recordings owned by the library (CDs or LPs, excluding streamed audio), use this tab to pre-limit to that format.

Video

If you know you are looking only for video recordings owned by the library (DVDs or videotapes, excluding streamed video), use this tab to pre-limit to that format.

Books

If you know you are looking only for printed books about something, use this tab to pre-limit to that format.

Journal Titles

If you know the title of a particular journal and want to see if we subscribe (in paper or electronically), use this tab. Please note that this will not retrieve individual articles, just journals in their entirety.

Articles

If you want to search only for articles, start with this tab. Warning: this search will not retrieve every article that might be on your topic.

Selecting "All Filters" from the white toolbar at the top, will open a toolbar on the left with options to refine your search to improve relevance or to expand your search.
